SHABBAT
Congregation Sinai offers several worship experiences, all of which are filled with music and the opportunity to pray as a community. We invite those new to Sinai to attend Shabbat services and get to know our warm and welcoming congregation.
Many of our services are livestreamed and can be viewed online
Kabbalat Shabbat at 6:00 PM Every Friday Night
On Friday nights, our Sinai community gathers together to lift our voices in song and prayer and reflect on a short D’var Torah - a discussion of the weekly Torah portion, the issues of the day and, not infrequently, the intersection between the two. Followed by a festive Oneg Shabbat (dessert reception) during which we greet old friends and make new ones.
Outdoor Kabbalat Shabbat (June - August)
Fridays
The jewel in the liturgical crown, our outdoor Summer Services commence at 6:00 pm and are preceded by wine and cheese at 5:30 pm. Join in our extraordinarily beautiful outdoor sanctuary where we enjoy the warm weather, wonderful music and words of wisdom.
Zoom Kabbalat Shabbat
Fridays:
Sinai will host occasional Zoom Shabbat during holiday weekends. On Zoom Shabbat - we will not be in-person at Sinai. Our entire community will worship together for Shabbat on Zoom. Look to the calendar and your Enews for scheduled dates!
Shabbat Vayinafash
Saturdays:
Join Rabbi Cohen for a series of Shabbat morning prayer experiences. Drawing from mindfulness practices such as meditation, movement and yoga, we'll explore Shabbat and prayer from a new and different perspective. The earliest Hasids (early 19th century) were explorers of mysticism and made use of multiple mindfulness modalities to reach their spiritual goals. Dress comfortably! Look the calendar and Enews for scheduled dates
Shabbat Morning Torah Study
Saturdays: 9:00- 10:30 am via Zoom
Why study Torah? It is the master narrative of our people, a road map for living a meaningful and purposeful life. It has been accessible and relevant to every generation since Mt. Sinai. We read Torah through two different lenses. First, we read it through the scientific study of Judaism lens. This employs the linguistic tools of cognate languages of the period as well as the frames of philosophy, psychology, anthropology, sociology and economics. Such lenses provide an understanding of what the Torah might have meant in the era of its origin. The second lens we employ is the traditional method of how Jews have read and understood these texts ever since. By combining the modern “scientific” approach with the traditional voices gives us an understanding that is nuanced and has depth.
Please look to your Enews for the Zoom link.
