B'rit Nashim is excited about our new year of gatherings. All women who are members of Congregation Sinai are welcome to join us. We have already started our year by preparing for the High Holy Days with Rabbi David Cohen joining us for a discussion of portions of a fascinating book.

B'rit Nashim (Covenant of Women) is a group of Sinai women who meet monthly for programs of personal interest and Jewish content. Through a commitment to our group, our main purpose is to build a community of women within the larger community of Congregation Sinai. We share, learn, laugh, grow, and strengthen our connections to each other, to Judaism, and to Congregation Sinai.

During last year, we continued to hold many of our meetings via Zoom, and some were hybrid or in-person. Some highlights included:

  • A visit to the Jewish Museum Milwaukee, with a docent tour of the moving photo documentary showing the internment of Japanese Americans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
  • Discussion of the film: "Dancing in Jaffa"
  • Discussion of a book and film called: "Period. End of Sentence". After this meeting, several members have gotten involved in working to help girls and women who do not have access to period products, leaving them unable to attend school or work.
  • Filmmaker Janet Fitch showed and discussed her film, "Dangerous Women", with us and with Women of Sinai.
  • We shared stories of meaningful "gifts" that we have received that have left an impact and memories, thus getting to learn more about our members.
  • Explored Tu B'Shvat through multiple activities focusing on trees and their meaning for us and for life.
  • We learned about the situation in Afghanistan, about the experience of Afghan refugees to the US, and about two young Afghan refugees that are being assisted by members of Congregation Sinai.
  • We studied: The Story of Queen Vashti - and Purim.
  • We played "Show and Tell" of something special or meaningful to learn more about each other.
  • Most importantly, we have had the opportunity to continue our connections with other women at Sinai, even during the pandemic. B’rit Nashim welcomes new members. This brings wonderful new energy and input to our “covenant”. We invite you to join us for any meeting.

We usually meet on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM, except this October, when we will meet the 3rd Monday, due to the Holy Days. (We will follow “Safer at Sinai” recommendations as to how we will meet. We hope to continue to offer a Virtual option, even if some of us are meeting in person.) Please watch the Sinai Enews for updates.
