Join Sinai Board of Trustee member, Gillian Rodger, and Rabbi Cohen for a conversation about our congregation and the LGBTQ community. We’ll discuss the ways in which Talmudic Judaism was more aware of and nuanced about sexual and gender identities. We will address the ways Jewish thinking and culture shifted on the topic of sexuality and gender over the ages. We’ll also ask the question: In what ways can we be more inclusive toward the LGBTQ community?
Gillian Rodger is the head of the Music History & Literature Department at UWM and focuses on musicology and ethnomusicology. She earned her Ph. D. in ethnomusicology at the University of Pittsburgh with dissertation entitled Male Impersonation on the North American Variety and Vaudeville Stage, 1868-1930. Her ongoing research focuses around popular musical theater of nineteenth-century America and working-class popular culture.
Gillian also makes the amazing multigrain challah that we enjoy on many Friday nights at Sinai!
